In a major leap for AI-driven travel, European mobility giant Bolt has connected its ride-hailing network directly to ChatGPT, giving nearly a billion users a conversational way to plan and launch their journeys.

Bypassing the industry-standard approach of gradual, market-by-market testing, Bolt has launched its ChatGPT integration simultaneously across every single market in which it operates.

The move connects Bolt's mobility platform to ChatGPT's estimated 900 million weekly active users. It also marks a historic milestone for European transport: this is the first time customers in the European Union, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Ukraine, Georgia and Azerbaijan can arrange ride-hailing directly through OpenAI's AI assistant.

How Does the In-Chat Experience Work?

Instead of toggling between messaging, mapping, and ride apps, it is now available to plan trips within an ongoing conversation. Inside ChatGPT, passengers can:

  • View Upfront Price Estimates: Get instant fare calculations before committing.
  • Compare Routes: Evaluate different paths and travel options.
  • Track Driver Availability: Check real-time estimated arrival times (ETAs).
  • Optimize Pickups: Discover the best nearby pickup spots to minimize waiting time.

Once a traveler decides to go, all journey details transfer to the Bolt app, where the ride is confirmed.

At launch, payment processing remains inside the Bolt app. However, Bolt has confirmed that full native payment functionality directly inside ChatGPT will follow later this year.

The partnership comes as consumer habits undergo a massive shift toward conversational AI for routine planning. According to Accenture's Consumer Pulse Research 2025, which surveyed 18,000 consumers across 14 countries:

  • 80% of global travelers now use AI tools during journey planning.
  • Over 50% are ready to let AI handle their travel arrangements completely.

Commenting on the shift, Paddy Partridge, Senior Vice President at Bolt, noted that dedicated apps are no longer the starting point for everyday activities:

"People don't plan their evening in five different apps anymore. A lot of that planning happens in one conversation with AI now," said Partridge. "For years, booking a ride meant opening a dedicated ride-hailing app. As more everyday interactions take place through AI, we think requesting a ride should be just as straightforward: ask, see the price, and go."

The Bolt integration is available globally through the ChatGPT app store, allowing users to link their experience and start requesting fare estimates immediately.
